Emerging Technology

Yesterday afternoon I made it into the Emerging Technology gallery right as it opened.  There where many exciting new products on display, including the new Microsoft Surface (which, according to the LA times is the whole point of this conference.)  There where new visual displays, new recording decives (my favorite being a new device to record the sound of touch).  There where also a few fun new games, it looks like Wii is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of player movement and physical interaction.  One game is focused on physical contact between players (i.e. when you “die, you have to tap the person you’re playing with 100 times to re enter the game.)

We also cruised through the Art Galerry, there are some fantastic, imaginaive multimedia works of art there (and a few that went way over my head. Thankfully I wasn’t alone.)  My favorite piece was the ”Veggie” Alien.  Its a portrait of an HR Giger Alien made out of vegetables that is starring cuiriously at a slab of meat in its hand.  It was done in 3D Studio Max, and it looks just like an oil painting.

This morning we also hit the course on the making of Surfs Up, but that blog will have to wait for later as we’re already running late for another course!
